Blue Nopal (Chile)
Blue Nopal is the collection name for these richly blue Chilean stones set in adjustable stainless steel rings. The name invites a closer look at the color and pattern, while the material deserves its own careful description.
How does it relate to Chilean blue opal?
This collection was supplied as Blue Nopal from Chile and is grouped with our Blue Opal (Chile) material. “Blue Nopal” is a trade or collection name, not an independently defined mineral species. A GIA field report describes blue to blue-green Chilean opal offered at Tucson in 2024, but explicitly notes that detailed mineralogical analyses of those displayed samples had not been published. It proposed light scattering and dispersed chrysocolla as possible color contributors; those are hypotheses for that reported material, not verified causes of color in these rings.
What is known about this batch?
The photograph documents the September 2025 jewelry; supplier identification and Chilean origin have not been independently confirmed for these particular stones. We do not infer a mine, a color treatment, a polymer impregnation, or a precise mineral mixture from appearance. Findings on other tested Blue Opal (Chile) pieces, where available on their own pages, apply to those tested specimens only.
Care
Remove the rings before impact-prone work, cleaning products, or prolonged soaking. Wipe the stones gently with a soft cloth and dry the stainless steel setting after wear. A treatment or porosity assessment would be needed for more specific care advice.
