Citrine (Gem)

A clean faceted citrine examined for its composition, crystal structure and internal features.

Sample: 1581 (#8 citrine). Completed: July 1, 2026.

Finding: Quartz colored by small amounts of trivalent iron. Polarized-light examination shows that the stone is monocrystalline.

What clarity can—and cannot—tell us

The researcher scanned the stone extensively and found no notable fluid inclusions. The report explicitly states that inclusions can occur in both natural and man-made stones, and their absence does not establish either origin. It suggests the stone may simply have been cut from exceptionally clean rough, without concluding that this proves natural origin.

No locality or definitive natural-versus-synthetic determination is provided in this report. It also does not give a heat-treatment conclusion.

Summary of findings: This is a very clean stone. Chemically it is quartz (Table 1), the color is due to small amounts of trivalent iron. The stone is monocrystalline as shown in Fig. 2. The interior oof the stone is very clean, scanned it extensively and did not find any notable fluid inclusions. Inclusions are seen in both natural and man-made stones, and the lack of them does not make a case for either origin. It may just be by chance a stone that was cut from a very clean piece of rough.
