Kataranskite (Russia)

Violet ornamental rock associated with Kataranskii Cape on the Kola Peninsula.

What it is

Kataranskite is a rock name, not a single-mineral gemstone. The purple tones have been studied in relation to manganese-bearing mica and altered feldspar within the rock.

Source and identification

The supplied locality is the Kolvitsa massif near Kataranskii Cape, Murmansk Oblast. Composition varies within a rock, so we will not assign a single formula to every piece.

Evidence status: Material profile based on sourcing notes and referenced mineral information. No laboratory report for an individual Soul Body Gems specimen is attached to this page.
