Rose Quartz (Black)

Alternate market-name listing for the same dark quartz sphere shown under Black Rose Quartz.

Finding: Sample 92934 was confirmed as quartz, with abundant fluid inclusions. The laboratory did not identify a second mineral or determine the source of its dark color, so the precise description is dark-colored quartz.

Both directory names display the same report. See Black Rose Quartz for the fuller explanation.

Understanding the report figures

Use this guide alongside the written findings and the original report transcript. It explains the purpose of each analytical figure and preserves the laboratory’s own figure labels. The interpretations apply to the tested specimen; signals alone do not establish the identity of every similar-looking stone.

  • Elemental spectrum: The peaks record characteristic X-ray signals from elements in the analyzed spot or area. This is an analysis of that location, not automatically of the entire specimen. Any mineral identification or uncertainty named in the laboratory caption is retained below.

Operating conditions: An AMRAY 1830 SEM operated at 25 kV acceleration potential, 26 mm working distance, 15 degrees sample tilt, coated with 250 Å carbon. Using the X-ray fluorescence attachment with 35kVpotental in conjunction with the EDS system.

A Bruker Titan X-ray fluorescence spectrometer was also used and operated with 50, 25 and 10 kV.

Summary of findings: This specimen is an interesting dark quartz sphere. Fluid inclusions are seen abundantly (Fig. 2). The material has a slight turbid appearance similar to rose quartz but no inclusions of fibrous minerals such as dumortierite could be discerned. Only quartz was identified, nothing else protruded from the surface. An attempt of long running X-ray diffraction scans did not reveal any dumortierite or any other mineral but quartz. Chemically, only trace amounts of iron and manganese were detected besides silicon. At this point, it can only be said that it is a dark-colored quartz.
