Why a star appears
Asterism is a star-shaped optical effect created when light interacts with well-oriented inclusions. Cutting and polishing the stone as a rounded cabochon can reveal the effect. A small, direct light usually shows it more clearly than broad diffuse illumination.
Color and light
The apparent position and visibility of a star change as the stone or light moves. The effect is distinct from fixed star-shaped inclusions such as the visible rutile flowers in some quartz. Star Rose Quartz and Rose Quartz (Stars) both open this profile.
