Winza Sapphire
Sapphire associated with Winza in central Tanzania.
Geology and color
GIA’s published study describes ruby and sapphire mined at Winza from primary and eluvial deposits beginning in late 2007. The corundum is associated with amphibolitic rocks of the Usagaran Belt. Sapphires studied from this locality include pink, purple and blue colors, often with pronounced color zoning.
Our collection
The photographs show material catalogued as Winza Sapphire in our November 2024 collection. The name records the supplied locality; photographs alone do not independently establish origin or treatment history. No specimen-specific laboratory report is attached here.
