Yttrium Fluorite (Mexico)
A soft lavender appearance makes these carvings memorable. The name supplied with them invites a closer look at fluorite and the rare-earth element yttrium.
What does the name mean?
Fluorite is calcium fluoride (CaF₂). The name yttrofluorite is used for a variety in which an appreciable amount of yttrium substitutes into the fluorite structure. “Yttrium Fluorite” is a descriptive trade name, not a separate mineral species. Color alone cannot show whether a particular carving contains yttrium or how much it contains.
Our September 2025 collection
These carvings were supplied to Soul Body Gems under the Yttrium Fluorite name with Mexico as the stated origin. We have not tested these pieces to confirm their composition or a specific locality. Other fluorite specimens and reports elsewhere in our Gem Knowledge library concern different material; their analytical findings should not be assigned to these carvings.
Care
Fluorite is about 4 on the Mohs hardness scale and has perfect cleavage, so an impact can chip or split a carving. Display it securely, keep it apart from harder stones, avoid heat and harsh cleaners, and dust or wipe it gently with a soft cloth.
